Spud Marshall is a nationally recognized facilitator, community builder, and author of Designing Creative Communities. He’s the founder of My Creative Community, where he helps organizations design gatherings and strategies that spark connection and drive action. A lifelong social entrepreneur (and lover of fog machines), Spud has launched multiple ventures and partnered with groups ranging from large multinationals to small local arts councils.

Spud Marshall is a nationally recognized facilitator, creative strategist, and social entrepreneur who helps groups design gatherings that spark connection, catalyze action, and build stronger communities.

As the founder of My Creative Community, Spud collaborates with partners across sectors—including philanthropy, government, higher education, and Fortune 100s—to design gatherings and strategies that move people from idea to action. Whether he’s guiding a statewide strategy retreat, designing a community block party, or emceeing a conference for thousands of people, Spud specializes in turning abstract visions into energizing, real-world momentum.

Spud’s work bridges community development, design thinking, and facilitation. He’s the creator of popular tools like the Community Collaboration Toolkit, which includes card decks and field guides used by changemakers around the world. His best-selling book, Designing Creative Communities, provides a simple yet powerful roadmap for leaders who want to turn ideas into impact in the places where they live, work, learn, and play.

He has launched multiple community ventures, including:

  • 3 Dots Downtown, a civic hub for arts and innovation,

  • the co.space, a co-living home for 21 young changemakers, and

  • New Leaf Initiative, a collaborative workspace for entrepreneurs and community builders.

Spud was named a Knight Foundation Emerging Cities Champion, one of America’s Top Millennial Civic Leaders, and one of Central PA’s Foremost Under 40 Business Leaders. He holds a Master’s in Strategic Sustainability Leadership, a deep love of fog machines, and a failure résumé he’s happy to share over a hike.
